The Emerging Miami Tech-hub

Miami’s creative culture is catching the eye of many investment firms and start-up accelerators. A recent article by Nancy Dahlberg in the Miami Herald reiterates the exciting new prospects of South Florida and the reasons for which Miami is becoming a new tech ecosystem, with a big nod to ParkJockey.

“All the elements are here,” speaks Brad Harrison, a New York Venture capitalist. It’s position as the gateway to Latin America and a growing ecosystem of talented entrepreneurs show that there is an abundance of potential for finding the next best thing in Miami.

As ParkJockey, we are proud to be part of the thriving Miami start-up ecosystem.

Don’t Let Parking Drive You Crazy !!!

Getting parking tickets can be very stressful business.  It makes you wonder just how far people will go to avoid a parking ticket.  One San Francisco woman went 12 blocks.  With a traffic cop on the hood of her car!

The Huffington Post reports that Bo Mounsombath, 33, was trying to get out of a parking citation by swiping a ticket from another car and placing it on her own.  Obviously, that old trick wasn’t slick enough to get by San Francisco’s finest, and while a traffic officer was writing her a ticket, Ms. Mounsombath hit the gas and took the officer for a half mile ride on the hood of her car.

Usually, parking tickets are only a petty, albeit expensive, nuisance.  However, you never can tell when your morning can shift gears from facing a $50 fine to facing charges of assault with a deadly  weapon.  Don’t push your luck and don’t let parking tickets drive you insane.  Keep your cool and book your parking space ahead of time with ParkJockey.

Where to Watch The World Cup Finals in Miami

Germany VS Argentina

The ParkJockey Miami team has put together a list of the top spots to catch this Sunday’s World Cup Finals based on your country allegiance –

If you bleed celeste y blanco…

Novecento

Why? Whether you’re at their location in Brickell, Aventura or Key Biscayne, you’re promised to be surrounded by flocks of Messi-wearing jerseys screaming obscenities at the multiple screens. If you get a chance to eat in between all of the chanting, the Novecento salad is a personal favorite.

Manolo

Why? Located in what is commonly referred to as Little Buenos Aires, Manolo is the meeting point for all things Argentine – whether it be protesting the government or chowing down on some empanadas and sandwiches de miga. Rest assured, if Argentina wins, the streets will come to an absolute standstill as fans flock to the streets.

If you bleed black, red and gold…

Hofbräu Beer Hall

Why? If your wife or girlfriend isn’t as into soccer as you are, she’ll be fully entertained ringing up your credit card at the many shops up and down Lincoln Road.

Fritz & Franz Bierhaus

Why? We’re in Miami – our German bar options are limited but this place is sure not to disappoint. Check out the scene here when Germany played Ghana.

If you’re from one of the countries that didn’t make it…

Watch The Cup in Wynwood

Why? 35,000 square foot space housing a 240” Jumbo LED Screen, the kids will have a great time playing “Pool Ball” – essentially an enlarged pool table with soccer balls you kick for points.

Wherever you allegiance lies – Argentina or Germany, South America vs. Europe, Sunday’s game promises to be one hell of a match!

Beat (them to) It!

5 years ago to this day we lost an entertainer, an influencer, a king … Michael Jackson.

He blessed us with many toe-tapping greats, from ‘Thriller’ to ‘Don’t Stop Till You Get Enough,’ his music has been and is influential to the music industry to this very day.

There is one song that sticks in my mind though –  ‘Beat It!’  The repetitive tuneful lyrics are so catchy you can sing the words over and over again in any country and will be recognised by all…

So if you are rushing to an event and you’re scared you are running out of time, don’t worry because pre-booking with ParkJockey will ensure you win the fight against time and space!

Ok fine…there really isn’t much of a connection between this King of Pop and Parking, but hey, visit www.parkjockey.com and ‘Beat them to it!

He he!

ParkJockey CTO shares his thoughts on iOS8 with Mobile Entertainment

Earlier this week, our very own CTO, Philippe Saint-Just, was interviewed by Mobile Entertainment (ME), along with other thought-leaders in the mobile community. This is the second time ParkJockey has been featured here, the first being given the crown of App of the Day.

The topic of this was, ‘Apple’s introduction of iOS8’. Here were his thoughts:

“The updates to notifications, widgets and lock screen apps will increase the fluidity of information and reduce the number of steps required to take action – ultimately, translating to better user engagement.

Since some of these features already exist on Android, this will allow app developers to align the products more closely on iOS and Android platforms. We also look very positively on the introduction of Swift. By reducing the learning curve for developers and allowing them to focus less on low level programming and more on feature development, we expect to see drops in costs and shorter development cycles.”
