Bank of America Chicago Marathon 2014

12-Bank-of-America-Chicago-Marathon

October 12, 2014 marks the 37th anniversary of the Chicago Marathon. It is considered one of the six World Marathon Majors as well as Boston, New York, Berlin, London and Tokyo. The first race held in Chicago was on September 25, 1977 under the original name Mayor Daley Marathon with 4,200 participants. Now the marathon has around 45,000 runners, but only participants clocking in less than 6.5 hours are timed. In 2008, the marathon’s name was changed from LaSalle Bank to Bank of America. That year 37,455 runners completed the race giving it the highest completion at that time. The men’s course record is by Dennis Kimetto with 2:03:45 in 2013 and the women’s is by Paula Radcliffe with 2:17:18 in 2002.

The marathon begins at Grant Park and runs through 29 of the Chicago’s neighborhoods. The race is sectioned into three parts the North, West and South passing Chicago’s main stadiums such as Wrigley Field, United Center and US Cellular Field. There will be 20 aid stations and medical staff every 1-3 miles with ambulances throughout the course in case of emergency.

Participants train for a very long time to make sure they are qualified for this race since it is 26.2 miles. Not only are they dedicated to finish they also raise money for charities such as St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, American Heart Association, Out of the Darkness and The Anti-Cruelty Society. If you wish to donate to a great cause click here

Save Your Millions, New York!

Soho SceneEarlier this month, The New York Times reported on parking spaces in a SoHo condominium that are selling for a whopping $1 Million. Holy COW! When your parking space costs 10 times more than your Maserati, you know you have a parking problem. In fact, the average price for a residential parking spot in New York is about $136,000. That is almost as much as the average price of a home in the United States.

No Parking

It makes sense that these private spots are so expensive, given that Manhattan had only 102,000 off-street parking spaces in 2010 (down from 127,000 spaces in 1978) and over 700,000 registered drivers. It is easy to feel overwhelmed by the numbers. Luckily New York’s drivers and commuters have a friend in ParkJockey. With all of this competition, New Yorkers need a professional to jockey for them, and that’s were we come in. We can guarantee you one of those increasingly elusive off street parking spots and save you money doing it.

Good news, New York: You don’t need $1 Million to guarantee your parking anymore!

Avoiding Mystery Parking Tickets: Secret “No Parking” Zones to Watch Out for in Manhattan (NYC)

Did you know that New York City has over 99 distinct parking violations with fines reaching up to $515 for some offenses? Even if you manage to decipher all of the parking signs that litter New York City streets, you can still get hit with fines for offenses that require no notice. For example, parking too close to an intersection, or “blocking the box”, can cost you a whopping $115! As if we didn’t already pay enough city tax!

no standing photo

Buried deep in all of these parking violations, there are some neighborhoods in Manhattan that have their own parking rules. For instance, parking your car in the Garment District (35th to 41st streets between 6th and 8th Avenues) at anytime between 7AM and 7PM will result in a $115 fine (even on Sundays!). So for anyone looking to stop over in the Garment District, garage parking is an absolute must!

If you find yourself in Murray Hill, don’t even waste your time trying to find street parking. There are 193 member states in the United Nations and it is well known that diplomats hate subways. As a result, street parking is restricted to those with diplomatic or consular plates only. Unless you can use your diplomatic immunity to get out of paying your tickets, good luck not breaking the bank with parking in Murray Hill.

Another area to watch out for is what the city refers to as “The Blue Zone”. The Blue Zone is a huge swath of land in lower Manhattan, stretching from the Brooklyn Bridge all the way down to Battery Park, and from Broadway in the West to South Street in the east. Parking in the Blue Zone from 7AM-7PM Monday though Friday is will run you a $65 bill from the Boys in Blue. Since the law applies generally to the entire area, parking signage is not necessarily required, catching many an unsuspecting motorist off-guard. So take note, you out-of-towners travelling to New York City for the first time!

For New York drivers “in-the-know,” it is no secret that there are a million ways to get a ticket. Some stubborn drivers refuse to park anywhere but on the street, but for those of us that want to maintain our sanity driving in The Big Apple, garage parking is the way to go. Save yourself the hassle and the mystery fines that come with street parking and stay ahead of the game by booking your parking in advance with ParkJockey. In fact use the promo code PKTIX and Save 10%. We promise: booking ahead with ParkJockey will not result in hefty fines, so save your greenies and book with ParkJockey!

U.S. Cellular Field Boxing Event

Boxing at the Park

World class professional boxing is returning to US Cellular Field, home of the Chicago White Sox August 23, 2014, starting at 6:00 PM. Local fight promoters, Hitz Boxing and Round 3 Productions signed on to stage this event at the South Side stadium. Last year’s event attracted 8,200 fans for the first outdoor boxing match in over a century.

The fights marked the first outdoor boxing event since 1962 at Comiskey Park when Sonny Liston knocked out Floyd Patterson to win the World’s heavyweight title.

This time around, Chicago’s own Donovan “Don Da Bomb” George (25-4-2, 22 Kos) will be fighting for the Super Middleweight World Title against Dyah Davis of Coconut Creek, Florida. Both of the boxing promoters for this event, Bobby Hitz of Hitz Boxing and Frank Mugnolo of Round 3 Productions signed George to their contract. When George won his first Golden Gloves championship it was Bobby Hitz who presented him with his trophy.

Hitz Boxing and Round 3 Productions just recently started working together in 2013. Hitz holds the record for longest running boxing promoter in Chicagoland.

Two other hometown boxing favorites representing Chicago are Frankie “Time Bomb” Scalise and Mike “Hollywood” Jimenez.

The boxing event is presented by B96 and will be hosted by The J Show’s very own J Niice and Showbiz Shelly. If you get to the park early on Saturday B96 will be hosting a live tailgate event for all the fans. If you do not have you tickets you can purchase them here.

Once you get your tickets for the event then you can purchase parking with Park Jockey at the McClellan school here!

You can also receive $5.00 off by using the promo code BOX14.
